I am vociferously passionate about good books. And I hate adverbs.

Book Review - Speechless, by Kim Fielding

Speechless - Kim Fielding

Oh, but this was just brilliant. I loved the voice of Travis, a simple man, a good man, a not-perfectly-beautiful man (can you see how tired I am of all the good-looking, fabulous, golden-curly-haired heartthrobs we're being fed lately? Yeah, me too). Travis is just normal. Not very good at interacting with people.

I loved his voice.

And I loved Drew. The frustrating life he is living would probably kill me (I'm a chatterbox), and to suffer from aphasia and not being able to communicate verbally would kill me. He can't even write anymore, and he is an author.
These two just WORK. I loved it. And the fact that the sex was non-graphic, and more of the fade-to-black-variety actually enhanced the storytelling (no, I never thought I would ever write that last sentence, I promise).

The story could probably have been longer, like a hundred more pages, but I am of the opinion that when a story has been told from A to Z, it is useless to try to keep it going, just because. It is short, concise, it makes all the points it needs to make, and I simply loved it. There is love, angst, discussions, and more love. All.

Oh, and the cat? THE. BEST. CAT. EVER.

There is a 20-page follow-up called The Gig, that I've also read, separate review for that one. Good writing is good, I'll be taking a closer look at this author.

***

I was NOT asked to read this book by anyone, I paid for it with my own money, as I do for all the books I read, all the music I listen to and the movies I watch.
